History of Paintless Dent Removal (PDR)
PDR is an abbreviation for paintless dent repair/removal . It was invented in 1960 by an employee of Mercedes, whose job was to take care of all the show cars at the trade fair in New York City. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that this technique was brought here to the United States for repairing vehicle dents.
The most common use for PDR is the repair of hail damage and minor door dings. The process requires a trained technician to manipulate the metal back to its original shape using specialized tools. This technique eliminates the use of body fillers and aftermarket paint, thus preserving the factory finish. PDR is now the preferred method for repairing hail damage vehicles by all insurance companies.
